Saturday 8th October was a busy day for the three sections of the 72nd Watford South Scout Group The Beavers ,Cubs and Scouts with their Leaders Were celebrating Simon’s day and the groups 65th Birthday.
A big thank you to all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts that went along to Morrisons and Tesco to raise money for the group by singing some Christmas carols. Thankfully it was a bit milder than last year so there were fewer red noses at the end of the night. In total we raised a whopping £367.01. Merry Christmas!
With the festive season fast approaching, The 72nd is holding a Christmas Quiz to get you in the spirit and possibly win you a few extra pounds to put towards those Scouting themed presents. The quiz is just £2 to enter and it is open to all families and friends of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. For full details and an entry sheet, download the Quiz here.Good Luck!
On October 1st our Beavers celebrated their 30th anniversary with a special birthday party. The hall was decorated in a Star Wars theme and there were special guests in the form of our district commissioner and several previous beaver leaders including Sue Bungy who came all the way from Cornwall for the event. There was a surprise visit from two storm troopers and their support staff who, after an hour of fun and games, told the beavers they had been picked for storm trooper training. The beavers and leaders were awarded birthday presents and told they had a good chance of becoming storm troopers one day, all except for grey beaver who was arrested and taken up to the death star to be told off by Darth Vader. The party concluded with cake and the chance to meet more ex leaders from the colony’s 30 year history. Many thanks to everyone who pitched in and worked late nights to make this event possible
It is always exciting to be starting a new term at the 72nd. The Beavers start on the 10th, Cubs on 14th and Scouts on 17th of September. The leaders have been busy over the summer and have come up with some fantastic programmes, which can be found in the relevant sections of the site or by using the following links.
The last beaver meeting of the term went very well with fun, games, food and Lees Wood all to ourselves. At the end of the meeting we thanked Grey Beaver for organising all the activities this term and we talked about which were our favourite ones.
1st place was the beaver boat race that Grey beaver organises every year.
2nd place was the sleepover and the trip to Duxford.
3rd place was the swimming badge. We all want to do it again
We are looking forward to next term.

On Sunday 6 teams made up of families from all sections of the group met in Cassiobury for a photo scavenger hunt. The earlier drizzle and clouds gave way to warm sunshine as the teams battled it out to try and find and photo as many items as possible on the list. Wood lice, ducks, planes in the sky, someone standing in a river were just some of the 30 items that were the the subject of cameras and smartphones as competitors darted around the park before meeting up again to tot up the scores and have a picnic. Congratulations go to Guna Clarke, one of our cub mums and her team who took first place and the prize of £15. A massive thank you go to all who attended and particularly to Jo Burrows for organising the event which raised £15 for the group. On the day all agreed that it was a thoroughly enjoyable event and hoped that it might grow bigger and better in years to come.
